Those bills are supposed to protect American entertainment businesses from illegal download but also and mostly from copyright infringement. But in the end, the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer and unentertained.
What become of unsigned artists who dream of a Youtube success story a la Justin Bieber? What become of creative people eager to be part of inspired and inspirational communities? What about people making a living from their blogs about entertainment? What about people like Ted "Golden Voice" Williams who have been able to turn their life around thanks to a Youtube buzz? Without Wikipedia, where will we go if we want to know how famous people who inspire us got their first break?
Maybe a lot of people don't have money to pay the full price for entertainment. But most people have two hands to clap and two feet to give a standing ovation. For free.
Whether this bill gets the green light or not, we are now sure of one thing: we all use the World Wide Web, but there's only one spider building and destroying it.
